SUMMARY

In the age of the so-called "post-truth" or "post-factual" society, which is described in Oxford Dictionaries as "referring to circumstances in which objective facts have less influence in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotions and personal beliefs", it is for active and responsible citizenship essential need for critical thinking, understanding the context and possible impacts of one's own actions and openness to support mutual discussion. All this is multiplied and closely related to the increase in the use of the Internet and social media, as they become the main influential factor in the "consumption" of information and the formation of opinions. In this context, the sustainability of democratic values ​​and democratic societies can only be ensured by active and responsible citizens,

The ACTIVE project deals with this very phenomenon and its aim is to empower pupils (aged 12 to 15) and teachers to initially advocate active and responsible citizens and democracy in the school context as role models and multipliers. In order to transform schools into promoters of "open, creative and responsible citizenship", students and teachers will first have to transform themselves. Both groups will engage with others and experts in their own attitudes, knowledge, language and behavior and create a sense of self-reflection and an atmosphere in the school where debate, open dialogue and critical thinking are welcome. Teachers will have the opportunity to protect pupils, create opportunities and share responsibility for them. This also means that the whole of society, politics, administration, civil society and professionals must be more involved in school life and ready to support teachers and pupils.

The main goal of the project is to enable pupils to orient themselves in the world they live in and to understand it so that they can act as active and responsible agents in a democratic society.
